Mary Anna Schmidt of Farmville, Virginia lost her battle with COVID-19 on May 6, 2020. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland on April 21st 1931. She was the daughter of John and Mable Benson. During her life she lived in Washington D.C., Waldorf, Maryland and Farmville, Virginia.
She is survived by her children Colleen Fitzpatrick, John Schmidt, Karl Schmidt and her sisters Janis DePuy and Elizabeth Bio. She is also survived by (5) grandchildren and (6) great-grandchildren. For the past 40 years she dedicated much of her time to caring for Karl who was injured in a diving accident.
During the 30 years that Mary Anna worked as a secretary for the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington D.C., she received numerous awards for her service. She was a skilled artist and gifted typist who typed many manuscripts for books written by the American Trappist Monk Thomas Merton.
Her remains will be interred at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suitland, Maryland.
