State death toll now at 231 from coronavirus

Twenty-three more deaths were reported across the state in Friday’s COVID-19 update from the Virginia Department of Health but changes in local case totals in local area were small.
The report now says 231 people have died as a result of the virus in Virginia. As of Friday, 7,491 cases of the virus have been reported, an increase of 602 cases from the Thursday update.
Friday’s update showed Buckingham’s totals increasing by one case to 24. Prince Edward’s total went to 17 cases, up two cases from Thursday. Cumberland, Lunenburg and Charlotte case totals remained the same.
The Piedmont Health District is listed as having COVID-19 outbreaks in a long-term care facility and a corrections facility. The state does not identify the facilities affected.
