Landfill meeting scheduled

The Cumberland County Landfill Alert Committee will be hosting its regular monthly meeting on Sunday April 5 at 3 p.m. at the Cumberland Community Center located at 45 South and Davenport Road in Cumberland. The purpose of this meeting is to inform Cumberland County residents and surrounding counties with updated information about the mega landfill. All are welcome.

Congratulations to Gene and Brenda Absher of Dillwyn. The couple will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary Saturday, March 21.

Our thoughts and prayers go out this week to all those who are sick and shut-in.

The Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary Saint Patrick’s Day dance on Saturday, March 21 has been postponed until a later date due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Appomattox County Lions Club 47th annual concert featuring The Inspirations from Bryson City N.C. that was scheduled for March 14 at 7 p.m. in the Appomattox County High School Auditorium was postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. It has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 26 same time, same place. Advanced tickets that have been sold will be honored the day of the concert.

The Buckingham County Christian Fellowship Association, a non-profit organization, will be hosting its regular monthly meeting Monday, April 6 at 5 p.m. at Hatcher Baptist Church of Cumberland. All members and their guests are welcome to attend and bring a covered dish for the meal. Following this will be our annual flower/plant exchange.
