Area man dies from COVID-19

Officials from the Virginia Department of Health’s Piedmont Health District announced that a resident of the district, a man in his 70s, died as a result of the COVID-19 virus.
The Piedmont Health District encompasses the counties of Prince Edward, Buckingham, Cumberland, Amelia, Nottoway and Charlotte.
Due to patient confidentiality, the county in which the man lived could not be released according to H. Robert Nash, MD, director of Piedmont Health District, Virginia Department of Health. Prince Edward County officials have confirmed the death was not a Prince Edward County resident.
Dr. Nash did confirm that the man died in a hospital but did not release which hospital.
No additional information is being provided about this individual.
“Sadly, we have experienced our first local COVID-19 related fatality. We send our sincere condolences to this person’s family, “said Dr. Nash. “Unfortunately, those over 65 and those with underlying health conditions are at greater risk of serious complications from COVID-19” said Dr. Nash. “Everyone, especially at-risk individuals, are strongly advised to take steps to minimize contact with others who are ill, practice social distancing and stay home whenever possible.
