Cumberland County High School’s No. 3-seeded varsity girls basketball team was victorious at home Monday, Feb. 24, in the Region 1B quarterfinals, but the Lady Dukes fell 63-22 to host No. 2 Riverheads High School Wednesday night, Feb. 26, in the semifinals.
The Lady Dukes finished the season with an overall record of 12-9.
They reached the regional semifinals after defeating No 6 Sussex Central High School 48-37 Monday.
Fueling Cumberland’s efforts this season were a pair of girls who received All-James River District honors. Junior guard Janaia Trent was named to the first team, while senior forward Sade’ Gregory made the second team.
Trent, who orchestrated the Lady Dukes offense, averaged 14 points, seven assists, five steals and three blocks a game. Gregory stood out for her rebounding and hustle.
