Prince Edward County has advertised that the Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing Tuesday, March 10, with regard to a proposed $1.9 million amendment to the Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20) budget.
The public hearing notice stated the proposed amendment to the county’s operating budget would transfer $1.9 million from the fund balance to the Industrial Development Authority of Prince Edward County for economic development purposes. The fund balance can be likened to a county savings account.
The Herald asked the county what the $1.9 million is for. The county would not reveal plans for the almost $2 million.
“The funds were requested by the Industrial Development Authority for economic development purposes,” Prince Edward County Public Information Officer Kate Pickett said. “We do not comment on current, prospective or possible economic development projects.”
The county’s notice stated the public hearing will take place March 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors Room on the third floor of Prince Edward County Courthouse, which is located at 111 N. South St. in Farmville.
