Dorothy S. Hudgins, 76, of New Canton passed peacefully on February 11, 2020. She was born April 10, 1943 in Roanoke, a daughter of the late Ezra and Louise Marie Stultz. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Warren Dunnavant, Sr. and her second husband, Donald Leon Hudgins.
Dottie was a graduate of Roanoke College with a B.A. in Education. She began her teaching career at a two room school house in Appomattox County. She retired after 40 years as an elementary teacher in the Buckingham County Public Schools. She also owned and operated the Sears Catalog Store in Dillwyn.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved fishing, crocheting, her cats and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.
Dottie is survived her three children, Elizabeth Ragland, James Warren Dunnavant, Jr. and his wife, Bettie and David Lee Dunnavant and his wife, Jennifer ; two step-children, Kenny Hudgins and Robert Hudgins; nine grandchildren, David A. Ragland, Jr., James A. Ragland, Grace Ragland, James W. Dunnavant, III, Thomas C. Dunnavant, Emily Dunnavant, Dawson Dunnavant, Jacob Hudgins and Kenneth H. Hudgins; a great-grandchild, Kara Marie Dunnavant; sister, Barbara S. Ryan and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition, to her parents and husbands, Dottie was also preceded in death by five siblings, Harold Leigh Stultz, Paul Eugene Stultz, Katherine Susie Stultz Bostian, Doris S. Young and Ezra Maurice (Moe) Stultz.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 12 noon at Arvon Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont.
