Piedmont Regional Jail completed its annual unannounced life/health/safety inspection, conducted by the Department of Corrections based on 43 standards as prescribed by the Virginia Board of Corrections Monday, Feb 3 and Tuesday, Feb. 4.
The jail scored 100%. The jail also received a perfect score in 2016.
The inspection covers all areas of the jail operation, that if not in compliance, may create a life/health/safety issue affecting the overall welfare of the inmates and staff at the jail.
As a part of the inspection, a tour is conducted of the entire facility to observe the cleanliness and general repair of the jail, that food is prepared and served as prescribed by the Virginia Department of Health, and all fire- related inspections are completed.
During the inspection, various aspects of the medical and mental health services are reviewed to ensure the inmates needs are met. The majority of the inspection is the review of documentation relative to twice per hour checks of inmates, to ensure their welfare and that the jail is meeting all requirements of the Board of Corrections.
