Johns Memorial Episcopal Church was among churches in the area holding services of Imposition of Ashes and Holy Communion on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 26. The Rev. Elaine Tola, deacon, performs the imposition of ashes on Sally Mayton at Johns Memorial. Tola said that when putting the ashes on the forehead, she states what it signifies — “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” She said the ash is in the shape of the cross as a reference to Christ on the cross. Ash Wednesday signals the beginning of Lent.
