Cumberland County High School’s varsity wrestling team placed ninth out of 26 teams competing at the Virginia High School League Class 1 State Championship this past weekend at the Salem Civic Center in Salem.

Grundy High School won with a team score of 230.5 points. The Dukes finished with 57.5 points.

Leading Cumberland was senior James “Trevor” Dayton, who finished third in the 152-pound weight class.

Dukes senior Blake Barker placed fourth in the 285-pound weight class, and senior Thomas Trowbridge placed fifth in the 220-pound weight clas
