A single-vehicle accident occurred late Sunday evening, Jan. 19, in Prince Edward County resulting in the death of the driver, according to a Virginia State Police (VSP) press release.
The release noted that VSP responded to the incident at 11:31 p.m.
“A 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt traveling south on (U.S.) Route 15 ran off the left side of the road less than a mile north of Route 630 and struck a tree,” VSP Public Relations Coordinator Shelby Crouch stated in the release. “The driver, Lindsey M. McCraw, 29, of Meherrin, was transported to Centra Southside Community Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.”
The release noted that McCraw was wearing a seat belt.
“The crash remains under investigation,” Crouch stated to conclude the release.
Tributes to McCraw from friends and family began flowing in on social media Monday afternoon, Jan. 20.
McCraw’s mother, Rebecca Thompson, briefly shared with The Herald some insights into who her daughter was and how she would be remembered.
“Lindsey was a very kind young woman who adored her nieces and nephews as well as her animals,” Thompson said. “She was happiest with her friends and enjoyed social media. She was most comfortable on her sofa with her pets in her PJs watching movies. She was a sweet soul.”
Her funeral was set for Thursday afternoon, Jan. 23, at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Meherrin.
