At the Jan. 14 Cumberland County Board of Supervisors meeting, County Administrator Don Unmussig announced the resignation of County Planning Director and Zoning Administrator J.P. Duncan effective Jan. 24.

Unmussig stated that he would be covering Duncan’s role until a new planning director/zoning administrator is found.

Duncan was hired in February 2018 to replace previous Planning Director and Zoning Administrator Sara Carter, who left the position to serve as town manager for the Town of Amherst.

“J.P. Duncan accepted a position with the Town of Newport, North Carolina,” Unmussig told The Herald in a statement Wednesday, Jan. 15. “His last day here is Jan. 24.”

Duncan declined to comment on his decision to resign.
