Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) responded to a call at 4:36 a.m. the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 17 at the 500 block of Trents Mill Road. According to CVFD member Ben Pfeiffer, crews arrived at the scene of the single vehicle accident to find the female driver trapped after the car had driven off the road and landed on its side.

According to Pfeiffer, after the vehicle was stabilized crews were able to gain access to the victim through the front windshield of the vehicle. Once firefighters cut open the windshield, the driver was able to exit the car with assistance and was transported to Chippenham Hospital in Richmond for evaluation. Rescue 21 and Engine 24 responded to the accident.
