Landfill committee hosts meeting

Cumberland County Land ll Alert Committee will be hosting its regular monthly meeting on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Cumberland Community Center located at 45 South and Davenport Road in Cumberland. The purpose of this meeting is to inform Cumberland County Residents and surrounding counties with updated information as to why this Mega Land- ll will be detrimental to everyone. All are welcome.
Happy birthday wishes go out this week to the following people: L. P. Gilliam of Dillwyn Monday, Oct. 14, Jean Sledge of Cumberland and Jean Anderson of New Canton both having birthdays on Wednesday, Oct. 16, and Eugene Talley of New Canton on Thursday, Oct. 17.
A special anniversary wish goes out to Barry and Linda Miles of Cumberland on Oct. 17. They have been married for 21 years. Congratulations.
The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors monthly meeting is held every second Tuesday unless otherwise announced at 7 p.m. in the Cumberland County courtroom.
First place winners receiving blue ribbons at the Five County Fair for 2019 in Farmville this year were John Dimmie of Farmville with his delicious carrot cake, wheat bread, banana bread and muffins. His wife Mary took first place with her delicious yeast rolls, fruitcake, brownies and doughnuts. Congratulations to both these winners.
Belated happy anniversary wishes go out this week to a very special couple from Dillwyn on Sunday, Oct. 6, Dan “Shot” and Betty Jo Lesueur. Belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to the following people: Elizabeth Randolph of Farmville, Doris Lesueur and Howard Dale Midkiff, both of Dillwyn, all celebrating birthdays on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Victory Baptist Church, located at 4339 Salem Road Spout Springs, will be hosting its third annual homecoming services on Sunday, Oct. 20. Sunday School will begin at 10 a.m. followed by morning worship at 10:30 a.m. with special music from the Victory Baptist Church Choir. A brief history of the church will be followed by the morning message from Pastor Jeff Worley. This will be followed by lunch at the Woodman of The World building located at 365 Harold Street of Appomattox. Due to a number of family members illnesses the 2019 fall Miles reunion has been canceled.
A speedy recovery is sent out to all those who are sick and shut-in.
