A partnership with Piedmont Senior Resources and the Virginia Department of Health/ Piedmont Health District will offer free flu shots to seniors age 60 and older living in Amelia, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Lunenburg, Nottoway and Prince Edward counties at the friendship cafes from 2-3 p.m. on the following dates. Buckingham: Tuesday, Oct. 29; Cumberland: Friday, Oct. 25; Prince Edward/ Scope: Monday, Oct. 28; and Prince Edward Crossroads: Wednesday, Oct. 30.

It has been recognized for many years that people 65 and older are at greater risk of serious complications from the flu compared with young, healthy adults because human immune defenses become weaker with age.
