Cumberland County High School’s varsity football team trailed only 6-0 after the first quarter Friday night, but host Central Lunenburg High School put together a dominant second quarter to build a 40-0 halftime lead, going on to win 47-0.
“We turned the ball over quite a few times, and they capitalized on all the turnovers,” Dukes Head Coach Howard Paras said. “They scored 34 in the second quarter. … Scoring was still an issue for us, but that second quarter got us — too many turnovers.”
Despite the loss, Cumberland had several defensive standouts. Sophomore Kyler Gilliam had a team-high 13 tackles, junior Vince Harris Jr. had four tackles and three fumble recoveries and junior Muzzammil Fulani had seven tackles.
