Cumberland Auto Service celebrated its 60th anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Business owner Margaret Atkinson explained that the business, founded in 1959, was originally started by H. G. Atkinson, Jr. and R. P. Ingle under the name Cumberland Garage.
Atkinson stated that the company has learned many things in their 60 years of operating, including how to take care of customers’ automotive needs and how to keep up with the constant changes in technology within the market.
Atkinson stated that one of the secrets to operating a successful business for so many decades is the ability to keep up with and change with the needs of the customer base, as well as helping to educate the community on how to safely operate motor vehicles.
Atkinson added that, “As this was a family operation, the fondest memories include the birth of children and grandchildren in both families and the assistance of people in need.”
Atkinson is also the secretary and treasurer of the company and continues to be active in the business. Greg Atkinson, her son, is now the president of Cumberland Auto Service and manages the establishment.
Family and community members gathered at Cumberland Auto Service on Oct. 5 for good food, the sharing of memories, and a cake featuring a picture of three Cumberland Auto Service trucks. The business thanks the community for their continued support throughout the years.
