New Store Presbyterian Church will be celebrating its 175th Anniversary on Sept. 29 during worship service at 11 a.m., followed with dinner on the grounds. The church is located at 230 New Store Road, Dillwyn. Everyone is welcome, including former members, friends, the community and extended family members.
See You at the Pole (SYATP) is an international, student-led prayer event that started in the early 1990s in Texas. It has now spread to many countries around the world. Students meet at their school flagpole at 7 a.m. on the last Wednesday of September to pray for their schools, communities and world. The prayer time is student designed and student led, though they can ask for adult assistance at any time. Those students at Buckingham County High School who are interested will meet outside the CTE building on Sept. 25, and follow the prayer time with a continental picnic breakfast.
Central Virginia Community Health Center (CVCHC) has weekly activities designed to keep you fit and healthy. Join them on Mondays at 6 p.m. for yoga, Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m. for Weight Watchers and 6 p.m. for kickboxing, and Wednesdays at 6 p.m. for yoga and 7 p.m. for pump and jump. Wednesdays also feature free use of the gym all day. Round out the week on Thursdays with Tai Chi at 9:30 a.m. Stay in shape at CVCHC. For more information, call (434) 581-3271, extension 10601.
Want to shop local and help some cool kids? The Buckingham County High School Horticulture Department is having its fall plant sale. A variety of mums are now available and are offered in a wide selection of colors including orange, yellow, white, red and purple. Support our schools as you decorate your homes and yards for the fall. For more information, contact Casey Davis at (434) 969-6100, extension 102. Greenhouse hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday. If arriving during school hours, check in at the office.
4-H Baking Day and Flower Arranging Work- shops are two events rolled into one. Prepare baked goods for the Five County Fair and have plenty to take home and enjoy with your family. This event is for youth ages eight and up and will be held at the BARN facility just outside of the Buckingham Court- house Village. It takes place on Sunday from 2-7:30 p.m. A light dinner will be served. Also, join experts from the Buckingham-Dillwyn Garden Club as they guide youth in the art of flower arranging. A Response to Active Shooter Event will take place on Thursday, Sept. 26, from 6:30-9 p.m. at the BARN, located at 11851 W. James Anderson Highway, Buckingham. This event, sponsored by Buckingham Farm Bureau, will be present- ed by Sgt. Eric King of the Virginia State Police. This presentation is designed to help civilians understand what
to do if confronted with an active shooter event. Topics include history and prevalence of active shooter events, the role of law enforcement, and civilian response options. Due to limited seating, pre-registration is required by Sept. 23 by calling (434) 983-2583.
