Lacks runs for supervisor

Audrey “Audi” Lacks has announced her candidacy for the District 1 seat on the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors.

Audrey and her husband, Ray, are longtime residents of Cumberland County.

Audrey was compelled to run for office due to her love of the county and her interest in bringing responsible, environmentally, friendly development and growth to the county and at the same time keeping the beauty and lifestyle of rural living.

Audrey graduated from J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College with a degree in Respiratory Therapy. She has spent 33 years as a health care professional. While working at VCU, she developed her leadership skills as the supervisor of the respiratory therapy department. She was also a volunteer for more than six years on the Forest View Rescue Squad.

Audrey’s plans for Cumberland include encouraging vocational and apprentice programs within a trade school in Cumberland to adapt to changing work opportunities. Secondly, she wants to put emphasis on promoting tourism by bringing attention to the many natural resources such as Bear Creek State Park, Cobb’s Creek Reservoir, High Bridge Trail and the James River. She would also like to promote and maintain the historic roots in Cumberland by putting greater attention and maintenance into existing historical landmarks. Audrey would also like to work alongside emergency services to develop needed improvements in the county regarding the fire, police, ambulance and social services in the county.

If elected, Audrey’s guiding principles will be to promote more government transparency and accountability along with responsible spending. She is asking for your vote Nov. 5.
