Robert C. “Bobby” Jones has decided to run for re-election to the Board of Supervisors for District One in Buckingham County. Jones has been on the board going on eight years. He and his wife have been married for 62. They have five children, 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Jones is a lifelong resident of Buckingham County. He is a member of the Buckingham Chamber of Commerce, a lifetime member and an elder of Arvon Presbyterian Church and a member of the Stonewall Masonic Lodge #200 for over 62 years.
He graduated from Marshall District High School in 1950, attended Spartanburg Junior College and came back to Buckingham County and went to work for Solite Corp. in 1951. He joined the army for three years, of which he spent 15 months in Korea, seven of those in a combat zone until a peace treaty was signed July 27, 1953.
Jones worked for Solite Corporation for 44 years and has been retired for 22 years. “My time with Solite Corp prepared me for the Board of Supervisors because this board governs the county,” Jones said in the announcement. “I say this because the county budget this year is approximately $50 million — and this is big business. I was involved in big business during my time with Solite.”
Some of the responsibilities Jones had during that time were as follows: He was president of Massey Concrete Corp, a subsidiary of Solite; president of the VA Readymix Concrete Association for two years; a member of the Board of National Readymix Concrete Association & general manager of Solite Sand and Gravel Division and president of Solite Lightweight Transportation Corporation.
“If I am re-elected to the Board of Supervisors, I will do everything in my power to bring good, clean business to Buckingham and will continue my conservative position in spending our citizens’ money to the best of my ability,” Jones said.
