Sounds of clucking, chirping, tweeting and oinking filled the air at the Farmville Poultry & Small Animal Swap on Saturday. Held in the Farmville Tractor Supply store parking lot on Main Street, and sponsored by Pet Chickens of Virginia (PCOV), the event featured vendors coming from across the state to swap, trade, sell or buy.

Chickens, birds of many types, rabbits and even pigs were for sale. Locally grown fresh produce, canned goods and homemade pies were also available.

According to Kristen Dindio, one of the swap hosts and owner of Hooves Paws & Claws, the swaps are held the first Saturday of the month depending on the weather. “Typically the swaps start up in April or May and end in November,” Dindio said.

“As a leading retailer of livestock, animal and pet products, this is an event that speaks directly to the interests and lifestyle of our customers,” said David Loveday, manager of the Farmville Tractor Supply. “We welcome guests to bring everything from goats, chickens, rabbits and ducks to guineas, quail, sheep and more. Even if attendees just want to learn more about owning animals, this event is a great place to start.”
