The Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association (PEFYA) Majors all-star team, representing Virginia, fell 15-4 to the Louisiana all-star team Saturday afternoon in Ruston, Louisiana, on opening day of the 2019 Dixie Youth Baseball Division 1 Major League World Series, a double-elimination event.
Despite the loss, Barrett Motter created a notable highlight for PEFYA by hitting a two-run homer.
Most of the PEFYA team is the same squad that attended the World Series two years ago in the Minor League age division (10- and 11-year-olds), and the boys went 0-2 in that run. Prince Edward-Farmville Majors Manager Mark Simon said his team’s focus is earning its first win at the World Series level this year.
The PEFYA boys will have another chance Sunday when they face the loser of Game 1, the South Carolina all-star team, at 6:45 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Listen in on Kickin’ Country WVHL 92.9-FM.
See Wednesday’s edition of The Herald for more details on PEFYA’s opening game.
