If you are interested in signing up for the conservation practice program under the new program year of July 1, 2019- June 30, 2020, contact the Peter Francisco Soil and Water Conservation District. The cost-share program provides financial incentives, tax credits and cost-share to agricultural producers who voluntarily install conservation practices on their farm to improve water quality. Applications and W-9 Forms for the cost-share/ tax-credit program must be received on or before the 10th of each month for review by the Board. No applications were reviewed during the July Board meeting. First round of reviews will be on Aug. 28. New opportunities this program year include more options available for livestock stream exclusion, such as higher cost-share rates and a buffer payment (varies on buffer width); new practices available for rotational grazing; and previous participants with practices enrolled in other livestock exclusion programs that have now expired from their contractual life span may now be eligible for funding to re-enroll. Other available practices include long-term vegetative cover on cropland (cool or warm season grass establishment); afforestation of crop fields (planting of pine or hardwoods); cover crops on winter fields (harvestable or non-harvestable options). If you are interested in any of these conservation practices, please call the Peter Francisco Soil & Water office at (434) 983- 7923 or send an email to kelly.snoddy@vaswcd. org. If you are unsure of the contractual life span expiration for your current practice, call and they’ll find out for you. They recommend scheduling an appointment/field visit with District staff to ensure an efficient sign-up.
