Cumberland County High School’s varsity golf team opened the 2019 season Thursday with a 212 score that fell short of beating Goochland High School’s 181 but defeated Buckingham County High School’s 225, giving the Dukes a 1-1 record that Head Coach Monroe Preston said is the “best start since I’ve been coaching.” The tri-match took place at Independence Golf Club in Midlothian. Preston noted his top two players showed promise. Those players are junior Thomas “Tad” Bryant III and sophomore Calvin Foster, the latter of which is pictured above during a practice session. The Dukes have a busy schedule this week with tri-matches on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
