Banks announces candidacy

Lloyd Banks has announced his candidacy for re-election as District Two Supervisor in Cumberland County.
He has served the citizens of Cumberland the past eight years, and his decision came as several county supervisors opted not to run for re-election. With the transition of at least three county supervisors, the county administrator and the director of finance, his professional expertise on the Board for an additional four years would be extremely valuable.
Banks was the only supervisor to vote against every tax increase the past eight budget cycles and he has been a staunch proponent of the Board of Supervisors living within its means without higher taxes or additional debt.
He likewise voted against the controversial landfill. While he has been a proponent of new businesses and flexible property rights, he was not convinced a majority of citizens in District Two supported the landfill.
Banks came to the Board of Supervisors as a retired military officer, the holder of a master’s degree in Business Administration, and a finance manager at the University of Virginia. He is a native of Virginia and has owned a farm in Cumberland County for nearly 15 years.
Over the years Lloyd has served as a church pastor, Vice Rector of the Norfolk State University Board of Trustees, and chairman of the board of directors of a local service organization.
