The Buckingham County (BC) Majors all-star team showcased talent in all three of its games played in the 2019 Dixie Youth Baseball Major League State Tournament, leaving BC Manager Troy Wooten with a positive impression of his squad’s overall performance.

“It was a fairly young team,” he said. “I thought we, overall, did well. We lost a few players to travel ball and just different avenues they went, and I thought we did alright for what we had.”

The BC All-Stars opened their state run July 5 with a 5-1 victory over the host team, the Lunenburg All-Stars.

On Saturday, Buckingham fell 5-4 to the Prince George All-Stars in seven innings, and Sunday, the BC boys rallied but lost 9-5 Monday to the Prince Edward-Farmville all-star team in a rain-delayed game.

Reflecting on the final game, Wooten said, “We had some errors at the wrong time of the game, to be honest with you. And just as far as the batting, we didn’t hit as well as I’d hoped.”
