A new county adminstrator, Don Unmussig, has been announced for Cumberland, according to a news release from the county.
Unmussig will begin his post on Monday.
The appointment came following a recessed meeting of the county on Thursday.
“Mr. Unmussig is a resident of Powhatan County and brings to Cumberland a wealth of experience in government,” the release cited. “He served with the Virginia National Guard for thirty years; has worked in state government with the Virginia Department of Forestry, the Virginia Department of General Services, the Virginia Department of Education, and the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles; and has worked in local government with Loudoun County. Don holds a bachelors degree from the University of Alabama and a master’s degree in public administration from Clemson University.”
Unmussig will succeed Vivian Seay Giles, county administrator and county attorney for Cumberland County.
No action was taken regarding the county attorney position, according to county officials.
