Fire crews responded to a barn fire from a lightning strike on Asal Road, off Route 45 in Cumberland County Sunday evening.
Firefighter Dan Pempel said the fire occurred approximately 7:45 p.m. He said the barn was a recently refurbished structure.
Randolph District Volunteer Fire Department, Farmville Volunteer Fire Department, Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department, Prospect Volunteer Fire Department and Hampden- Sydney Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident and set up a water shuttle, Pempel said.
He said one firefighter had injuries and was transported to Centra Southside Community Hospital to be checked out.
Faye Honebein, Herd Share program manager with Golden Valley Farms LLC, the organization that operated the barn, said an Amish farmer owns the barn.
She said the surrounding Amish community has already cleared approximately 90 percent of the debris and began mixing concrete to begin rebuilding the barn. She estimates a new barn could be up by Friday.
