A fire resulted in the total loss of a home in the 2000 block of Belle Branch Road Friday.

Dillwyn Fire Chief Jason Wharam said the structure remains standing, but that the home is a total loss. The cause of the fire is not known, Wharam said, and it is under investigation.

Multiple fire departments responded, working in high temperatures to douse the fire. Wharam said Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Department, Arvonia Volunteer Fire Department, Glenmore Volunteer Fire Department, Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department, Randolph Volunteer Fire Department and Farmville Volunteer Fire Department responded.

“We had to have the manpower because of the heat,” Wharam said.

He commended how well each fire department worked together during the incident.

He said no one was in the house at the time of the fire.

A fundraiser has been published online to help the family involved in the fire. It can be accessed at https://tinyurl.com/y4kle7vo.
