Two people in the Heart of Virginia died after a single-vehicle crash that occurred in Appomattox County Wednesday morning.

The driver, Aneal D. Walker, 19, of Pamplin, and passenger Brandon J. Smith, known as James Brandon Smith, 30, died at the scene.

According to Virginia State Police, the crash took place shortly before 7 a.m. in the 15,700 block of Richmond Highway.

“A Ford dual-wheel pickup truck was traveling west on Route 460 when it ran off the left side of the highway and struck the guardrail,” state police officials cited. “The vehicle continued up the embankment, overturned onto its side and slid into a tree.”

State police officials cited that the Virginia State Police Appomattox Division Crash Reconstruction Team was on scene assisting with the ongoing crash investigation.
