Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Farmville Resident Engineer Scott Frederick recently presented an overview of the secondary six-year plan and VDOT activities taking place in Cumberland County.
Three roads currently undergoing improvements as part of the plan are Route 685, Miller Lane from Route 654 to its dead end; State Road 669, Criss Road from Route 60 to its dead end and Bransford Road on Route 681 from its dead end to Route 654, Frenchs Store Road.
The total costs of the projects, Frederick said, is $375,000.
Two routes planned for next year are Route 653, High Hill Road from dead end to Route 600 and State Route 635, Pleasant Valley Road from Route 636 to its dead end.
Frederick also estimated the cost for the projects to be $375,000.
A change to the plan would be to potentially add Brook Hill Road, Route 621 to year six
During the Cumberland County Planning Commission meeting Monday, County Administrator and Attorney Vivian Seay Giles said the full six-year plan is available at the county office and encouraged commission members to contact their supervisors concerning the plan.
In other VDOT-related news, Frederick said during the May 14 meeting that asphalt resurfacing began on May 20. The roads that are being resurfaced include Route 684 from the Powhatan County line to State Route 45; State Route 622 from Bear Creek Market to State Route 60 and State Route 60 from the Powhatan line to State Route 601. Frederick said Route 60 will be getting other safety improvements as well, including widening the shoulders and putting center line through strips.
Frederick said that pavement preservation latex is set to take place on Routes 1009-1015, the Kimberly Hills subdivision.
Mowing secondary routes, Frederick said, started May 14.
A public hearing for the six-year plan is expected to take place during the June Cumberland County Board of Supervisors meeting.
