Events in honor of Memorial Day

A series of events are scheduled to take place over Memorial Day weekend into Memorial Day to honor service members who have died while serving in the U.S. military.
A Memorial Day service scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. will be held at the Cumberland County Courthouse lawn at 1 Courthouse Circle.
The event is set to be hosted by the Cumberland County Historical Society.
“Join us to honor those who served and are no longer with us,” a statement from the historical society cited. Officials encouraged participants to bring photos and information of family members who have served.
On Sunday, Bethel Grove Baptist Church, located at 10844 Green Bay Road in Rice, will hold a Memorial Day service at 3 p.m.
“All are welcome to come out and help remember their loved ones who are deceased,” officials from the church cited in a statement.
On Monday at 11 a.m., The United Daughters of the Confederacy, Farmville Chapter 45 will be holding a Memorial Day service at the Farmville Confederate Cemetery, located at 835 Longstreet Road. The guest speaker, according to an event description, will be Travis Toombs, who currently serves as the archivist for the Virginia Division Sons of the Confederate Veterans. Officials encourage participants to bring chairs as seating is limited.
