Cumberland recognizes National Drug Take Back Day

Cumberland Commonwealth’s Attorney Patricia “Pat” D. Scales, Cumberland Sheriff Darrell Hodges and Kim Wright, co-owner of the Cumberland Pharmacy, combined their efforts to showcase National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Area citizens dropped off expired or unused medications in the disposal boxes they set up at Cumberland’s annual Patriot’s Day. “I was very pleased with the great response we had from the community and the amount of prescription drugs that will now be disposed of properly and not going into our landfills or waterways,” said Hodges.

This is an ongoing project for Hodges, Scales and Wright, who work together each year to draw attention to and solve a problem that is of importance in the community. In fact, Hodges and Scales teamed up to get a grant to purchase a medication disposal box that is located in the sheriff’s office lobby and available to the public 24 hours a day for the proper disposal of unused medications.
