The Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors awarded a contract to Blair Construction Inc. for the renovation of the Prince Edward County Courthouse during a special meeting Tuesday evening.
County Administrator Wade Bartlett said the contract was in the amount of approximately $4,475,000.
“We only had two bidders, and that was the low bid,” he said. “That’s why we chose them. It wasn’t the only reason. They have a good reputation. It’s the same company that’s building the new social services building. They’ve done some work in other courthouses. Blair Construction’s been around about 100 years. They’re out of Gretna. So they’re a reputable firm that we had no reason not to go with the low bid.”
The board’s vote for the low bid was unanimous — 7-0.
Farmville 801 District Supervisor Pattie Cooper-Jones was absent due to being on vacation, cited Farmville 701 District Supervisor and Board Chairman Jim Wilck.
Bartlett said Blair Construction will begin work on the courthouse fairly soon.
“We’re having a kickoff meeting next Tuesday, so we’ll talk then, look at the schedule and know more after that meeting,” he said.
