The Church and Community Events calendar is published each Friday. Items must be submitted by 10 a.m. Monday for that Friday’s calendar. Events should be emailed to CommunityCalendar@FarmvilleHerald.com.

MAY 23

MASS MEETING, 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Farmville hosted by the NAACP and Moton Museum in recognition of the 65th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education, the 60th anniversary of the closing of Prince Edward Public Schools and the 55th anniversary of Griffin v. County School Board of Prince Edward. Reception will follow in the L. Francis Griffin Fellowship Hall at 9 p.m.

MAY 24

TOUR OF MOTON MUSEUM, 8-10 a.m. followed by a panel discussion: Davis v. County School Board of Prince Edward. Lunch will follow from 12:15-1:30 p.m. Another panel discussion will take place from 2-4:30 p.m. on the Impact of Brown in the community followed by dinner at Longwood Hall and a discussion on Griffin v. County School Board of Prince Edward.

TEEN ESCAPE ROOM, 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Farmville-Prince Edward Library.

MAY 25

BREAKFAST AND DISCUSSION, 8 a.m.-noon, at Moton Museum. Panel discussion: Legacy.

MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE, 1 p.m. hosted by the Cumberland County Historical Society on the Cumberland Courthouse Lawn. Join us to honor those who served and are no longer with us. If you wish, you may bring pictures of family who have served along with any information to share with the Historical Society for its files.

ANNUAL SIMS MEMORIAL, 4 p.m. at Tearwallet Baptist Church, Route 60 Cumberland, featuring Denise and the Traveling Aires.

MAY 26

SERVICES, Farmville Baptist Church. Bible study at 9:45 a.m. with worship service at 11 a.m.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS DAY, 3 p.m. at Peaks Baptist Church, Prospect. The Rev. Otis Johnson, pastor. All are welcome.

MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM, 3 p.m. at Bethel Grove Baptist Church, Rice. All are welcome to come out and help remember their loved ones who are deceased.

BENEFIT PROGRAM, 3 p.m. for the New Store Baptist Church building fund featuring The Voice of Galilee of Farmville, The No Name Gospel Singers of Keysville and The All For Christ gospel singers of Buckingham.

19TH PASTOR’S ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. at The Old Green Creek Baptist Church for the Rev. Samuel Trent. Special guest will be the Rev. Henry Fletcher, pastor of St. Louis Baptist Church, Charlotte Courthouse accompanied by his choir, ushers and congregation. Dinner will be served. All are welcome.

MAY 27

MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE, 11 a.m. hosted by The United Daughters of the Confederacy, Farmville Chapter 45. Guest speaker will be Travis Toombs, currently the archivist for the Virginia Division Sons of the Confederate Veterans. Seating is limited. Bring a chair.

MAY 30

FOSTER PARENT AND INFORMATION SESSION, 4-6 p.m. at Farmville-Prince Edward Library to learn more about the need for foster parents in our region. Bottled water provided.

MAY 31

MONTHLY MEETING 1 p.m. of the MOAA (Military Officers Association of America) at the Riverside Café, 522 N. Main St., Farmville. All active, former and retired military officers and spouses/widows are welcome to attend. This is a self-pay luncheon.

JUNE 1

BENEFIT YARD SALE, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1300 Milnwood Road to benefit the missions.

MEN’S COFFEE CHAT, 8 a.m. at Farmville Baptist Church in the fellowship hall.

NATIONAL TRAILS DAY 5K RACE, 8 a.m. Meet at the Camp Paradise access to High Bridge. Register at www.runsignup.com or call (434) 315-0457.

DINNERS, 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. hosted by The Farmville United Women’s Organization at the Randolph Masonic Lodge on Griffin Boulevard in Farmville. The menu will include fried fish or pig feet dinners or fried fish sandwiches. Sides, roll, dessert and beverage included.

GEMINI INC. SENIOR BANQUET, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Farmville Sports Arena, 1328 Zion Hill Road, Farmville for seniors 55 and older.

MISSIONARY MINISTRY PROGRAM, 3 p.m. at Tearwallet Baptist, Route 60, Cumberland, presents “The Bible – Biblical Miracles” featuring guest singers, musicians and Highlights of Miracles in the Bible.

GOSPEL CONCERT, 6 p.m. at Fitzgerald Memorial Church, 14 Fitzgerald Road, Cumberland, entitled “Just Us Gospel.” A love offering is recommended.

JUNE 2

YOUTH DAY, 11 a.m. at High Bridge Baptist Church, Rice. Community youths will be participating in singing, praise dance and other talents. Come out and support the church youth.

MEN’S DAY, 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Farmville, Guest Speaker will be Minister Adam Freeman and music by The Royal Supremes. First Baptist is located on the corner of Fourth and Main Street in Farmville.

YOUTH CHOIR ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. at Jericho Baptist Church. Guests include the Peaks Baptist Church Youth Choir and First Nottoway Baptist Church Youth Choir. Come out and support our youth. Jericho Baptist Church is located at 615 Franklin St., in Farmville. The Rev. Dr. James H. Taylor, III is the pastor.

JUNE 4

TUGGLE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MEETING, 6:30 p.m. at Mount Moriah/Upper Room Baptist Church, located on Tuggle Road. We will be discussing our annual Community Picnic.

JUNE 7

LIVE AT RIVERSIDE, 6-9 p.m. hosted by Farmville Jaycees at Riverside Park, 517 N. Main St., Farmville.

FIREFLY FESTIVAL, 9-11 p.m. at High Bridge Trail at the Appomattox River overlook. Access available from Camp Paradise Road on the Prince Edward County side of High Bridge or arrive at the River Road parking area in Cumberland County by 8:30 p.m. in order to have enough time to walk the mile to High Bridge. Parking fees apply.

JUNE 7-8

WOMEN’S CONFERENCE, 7 p.m. on Friday entitled “2019 Fill My Cup Lord,” at the Apostolic Faith Church Of All Nations, 1358 Sheppards Road, Farmville. Contact Evangelist Wendy Jones at (434) 547-8641 for tickets. Saturday services will begin at 8 a.m. with breakfast. Lunch will be served.

MUSICALE, 1 p.m. at the home of Jackie Paterson, 1771 Saw Mill Road, Farmville, sponsored by CVA. Music performed by James Kidd. Guests are asked to bring a favorite finger food to share.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL, 5:30-8 p.m. at Farmville Baptist Church for ages five-12. Theme will be “Fruit of the Spirit.”

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL, 6-8 p.m. at Jericho Baptist Church, 614 Franklin St., Farmville. Theme: STU (Super Training University). Transportation is available. Call Marvin at (434) 390-4945 for pickup locations.

JUNE 14

SUMMER OUTDOOR FILM SERIES, dusk, at Crute Stage, corner of Main and Fourth Street, Farmville. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Popcorn, candy and drinks will be for sale. No pets permitted. Rain date will be following evening.

JUNE 14-15

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL DAY CAMP, at Maysville Baptist Church, Buckingham Courthouse. Hours are Friday, June 14, from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 15, from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Children ages four through sixth grade are welcome. Lunch will be provided both days and families are welcome on Saturday at noon for lunch and the closing program. Fun, interactive Bible teaching, games, snacks, experiments, music and more. YOUTH DAY CELEBRATION, 3 p.m. at Tearwallet Baptist Church, Route 60, Cumberland, featuring praise dancers, choirs, and other youth groups from area churches

JUNE 23

10TH PASTOR’S ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Guest will be the Rev. Kevin Bolden, a Buckingham County native of the Oak Union Baptist Church in Charlottesville. Zion Baptist Church Choir will be the special choir for the event. Dinner will be provided immediately after the morning service and before the anniversary program.

JUNE 28

BLOOD DRIVE, 1-6 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1301 Milnwood Road, Farmville.
