The March meeting of the Redbud Garden Club was held at Cumberland Presbyterian Church with president Janet Higgins presiding. Jo Smith introduced the speaker, David Fowlkes, who was a horticulturalist for Longwood and then Farmville before retiring in 2017. He gave a program on his extensive experience with camellias. Fowlkes brought dozens of blooms from his approximately 100 camellias. Along with pointers on the joy of growing Camellias locally, which is at the edge of their growing range, members were able to look at blossoms of almost 40 named varieties. Participants left the meeting inspired and carrying many blossoms to enjoy at home.

The following ribbons were awarded for the arrangement “Rustically Cheerful.” Ann Ligon and Nancy Schaeffer received blue ribbons and Rebecca Giles, Janet Higgins, Geraldine Sanderson, and Sarah Schember all received red ribbons. For the arrangement “Birds Return” blue ribbons were awarded to Janet Higgins and Nancy Schaeffer and red ribbons went to Dottie Fahrner, Mary Hazlegrove, Ann Ligon, Patsy Miessler, Geraldine Sanderson, Sarah Schember and Barbara Stimpson.
