The annual event celebrating Cumberland County’s first call for independence from Great Britain, Patriot Day, is set for Saturday from noon-5 p.m. at the Cumberland County Courthouse.

Organizer Barbara Gamage said the event will kick off with an appearance from the Deep Run Hunt Club horses and hounds.

Following their appearance, the Cumberland High School Band will perform and the Cumberland JROTC will present the colors. There is set to be a skit that includes information about the county’s history, which will include a chorus of children from the school and the Cumberland Singers.

The event is set to feature live music from the band Deep Blue Express.

“We have about 20 vendors for the afternoon as well as many children’s games that are free with prizes at the end of the day,” Gamage said.
