A Cumberland County officer involved in an accident that caused the car he was driving to overturn only has minor injuries, Sheriff Darrell Hodges confirmed.
The accident occurred Saturday evening shortly after 7 p.m., when an officer was driving through Route 45 North, near Cartersville.
“The officer was responding on a call,” Hodges said. He said the shoulder of the road was wet due to the recent, heavy rainfall. When the officer pulled over on the shoulder of the road, Hodges said, the back end of the shoulder gave way, and the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The officer was transported to Chippenham Hospital in Richmond as a precaution. Hodges said he received the call while he was in Farmville, and drove straight to the hospital.
The officer was determined to only have minor injuries and was released shortly after being admitted.
