Noise ordinance hearing set

The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors is set to hold a public hearing to consider amendments to its noise ordinance during a meeting scheduled Tuesday, April 9.
The hearing is set for 7 p.m. at the Cumberland County Courthouse.
“This code amendment is to modify and re-enact the noise ordinance in its entirety,” the public notice for the meeting cited. “The purpose of this amendment is to enact reasonable restrictions on nuisance and/or excessive noise in Cumberland County.”
Planning and Zoning Director J.P. Duncan said Monday that the proposed ordinance amendment did not go through the Cumberland County Planning Commission because it is not a zoning ordinance amendment.
Duncan said this proposed ordinance would be enforced by Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, and will be considered for a hearing by the board of supervisors due to some complaints the county received.
In the case of the other amendments such as five recent proposed festival amendments, Duncan said festivals go through the county planning and zoning office, and are ultimately regulated by the board of supervisors, though the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and county building inspector could potentially play a role in enforcement.
