Prince Edward County High School’s varsity softball team defeated visiting Randolph-Henry High School 8-4 on Thursday to improve to 7-5 overall this season. The Lady Eagles have now won five of their last six games.

Head Coach LaDonia Mujahid said her team’s performance against the improving Lady Statesmen was good Thursday.

“We started out a little slow, and then we put everything together in one inning, and we had a little bit of a breakdown in the end, but we finished the game out, and we got the win,” she said.

The Lady Eagles scored four runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the sixth.

Senior Da’Mya Harris led Prince Edward with three hits. Sophomore T’Asia Beasley had two doubles, junior SaRoya Walton recorded a triple and a single, and freshman Alyson Lucas registered a double and a single.

Lady Eagles sophomore Jaden Capati pitched the entire game and threw six strikeouts.

“Jaden had a no-hitter going till the seventh inning,” Mujahid said.

The coach noted Capati has been doing quite well in the circle this year.

“I think every game she has pitched she has done very well,” Mujahid said.

Considering the overall arc of the season for her team so far, Mujahid said Thursday, “I’m feeling pretty good. If we hit — we start to string some stuff together with hitting — I think we’ll be just fine. And we’ve proven that we can contend with anyone, it’s just a matter of staying focused and finishing the entire game out and not having mental breakdowns like we had in the seventh inning today.”
