Flash flood watch issued for region

The Heart of Virginia has been placed on a flash flood watch between Friday, 1 p.m. to Saturday, 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Thunderstorms and high winds remain on the forecast for Friday and Saturday.
Buckingham County Public Schools has closed Friday due to the impending inclement weather.
Prince Edward County Public Schools and Cumberland County Public Schools announced that schools will be dismissing early at noon, in order for students to be transported safely before the storms forecast for Friday and Saturday.
Longwood University, in a message to students and faculty, encouraged those with cars parked in flood-prone areas, particularly the Virginia Street lot behind Midtown Landings, should be moved to either the Putney Street lot or the upper Wynne tiers. Commuters who typically park in the Virginia Street lot should also park in the upper Wynne tiers, and will not be ticketed.
