Young Tigers lacrosse team remains talented

Hampden-Sydney College’s (H-SC) lacrosse team may be young after bidding farewell to an unprecedented number of players due to graduation, but the Tigers remain potent and the consistent expectation to be Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) champion remains the same.
H-SC has started the 2019 season 6-2.
“We graduated that class last year of 18 guys, which is the biggest class we’ve ever had here, so it’s a lot of new faces in the starting lineup and some that had nice years last year, but they’re still young guys,” Tigers Head Coach Jason Rostan said. “We’re relying on a lot of freshmen and sophomores and really just a handful of juniors and seniors.”
The team this year is comprised of 25 freshmen, 19 sophomores, eight seniors and seven juniors.
“It’s exciting just to have some new faces out there, but the talent, I don’t think we’ve dropped off, talent-wise,” Rostan said.
The coach led his list of individual standouts with senior attackman John Burke.
“He’s a senior captain for us, but he’s just been kind of our offensive quarterback,” Rostan said.
He also highlighted junior goalkeeper Nick Arcuri, sophomore attackman Jared Medwar, sophomore attackman Jake O’Brien, junior midfielder Jack Hayden and freshman midfielder Sean Duffy.
H-SC hosts Washington & Lee on Saturday.
