James R. “Jimmy” Hill, Sr., 78, of Manakin- Sabot, Va., passed away on Friday, March 15, 2019.

James R. ‘Jimmy’ Hill Sr.

Jimmy was born in Fredericksburg, Va., on July 16, 1940. He graduated from Buckingham Central High School and attended Louisburg College in Louisburg, N.C. Jimmy opened an Esso service station in Louisburg, N.C., in 1965. He relocated to Dillwyn, Va., in 1973 to work with his father’s general contractor company, R.W Hill & Sons. He began his insurance career in 1977 and retired in 2013. Jimmy was a member of the Aflac Hall of Fame. He loved spending time with his family, playing the guitar, traveling across the country in his motorhome and attending NASCAR events with his lifelong friend, Richard Petty.

Jimmy was a Deacon at Dover Baptist Church, a member of the Commonwealth Committee as an advisor to Governor Jim Gilmore. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret; two sons, Jay and Greg; daughter-in-law, Liza; and five grandchildren, Tripp, Scarlett, Madison, Monroe and Marshal. Predeceasing him were his parents, Roy Wilson Hill and Nettie Stinson Hill; brother and sister-in-law, Roy Wilson Hill, Jr. and Rita Hill; and brother, Roger Hill.

A “Memories of Jimmy Hill” service will be held at Dover Baptist Church at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2019, with reception dinner and family visitation afterward in the church Fellowship Hall.
