Cumberland County High School’s varsity girls basketball team was represented on the 2018-19 All-Region 1B first team with the selection of junior forward Sade’ Gregory.
Lady Dukes Head Coach Omar Liggins was pleased to see her receive this recognition.
“The one region game we did play, she had 16 points, 11 rebounds, three or four steals, and, of course, she had to play the big girl as well, so it was well-deserved,” he said.
The big girl he was referring to was Appomattox Regional Governor’s School senior forward Jada Boyd, an NCAA Division I recruit.
After Cumberland senior forward Nadia Elasha got in foul trouble in the first half, Liggins assigned Gregory to guard Boyd in addition to her other duties.
Gregory commanded the respect of multiple coaches in the region to gain the all-region honor.
“All I told them as far as her season stats was she made first team all-district,” Liggins said.
