Child hit by excavator

A 7-year-old child was hospitalized Sunday afternoon after being struck by a mini-excavator, Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jason Wharam and E-911 Coordinator/ Emergency Manager Cody Davis said.
Wharam and Davis said the incident was reported shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday at a residence on the 8000 block of Andersonville Road. Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Department and Buckingham Volunteer Rescue Squads responded to the incident.
Davis and Wharam said the vehicle involved was a mini-excavator.
Davis and Wharam said the child was transported to University of Virginia Medical Center. Wharam and Davis said the child was in stable condition and injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Davis said there is no suspicion of foul play related to the incident.
