Prince Edward County Public Schools (PECPS) officials cited in an announcement Friday that they will be seeking to fill a vacancy for the Farmville District (701) seat with the PECPS School Board.
“The applicant must be a registered voter and a resident of the Farmville District (701) of Prince Edward County,” the announcement cited.
Cainan Townsend, who sat at the Farmville District seat, announced his resignation Wednesday, Feb. 13.
He cited personal reasons for the departure.
“I will miss the position greatly and hope to be able to serve again in the future,” Townsend said. “Great things will continue at PECPS.”
In a statement from Dr. Barbara Johnson, PECPS superintendent, Johnson said, “We are grateful for Mr. Townsend’s contributions to the Prince Edward County School Board. He will be missed.”
The person appointed to the Farmville District (701) seat would serve until a successor is chosen during the November 2019 election.
According to the announcement, applicants are required to send a letter of interest and resume to Janet McConville, clerk of the board, 35 Eagle Drive Farmville, VA 23901.
Deadline to submit the application is March 7.
