Trent wins heavyweight district title

Cumberland County High School senior heavyweight Kaijhaun Trent, pictured above on top, wrestles Bluestone High School’s Alex Hardy on Thursday for the 2018-19 James River District championship in the 285-pound weight class. Trent won by decision, finishing as the lone Duke to take home a title at the championships, which were held at Nottoway High School. With the win, Trent improved his individual record for the season to 22-2. Two Cumberland wrestlers placed second, including junior Tony Ingram, in the 160-pound weight class, and junior Lamard Jackson, in the 120-pound weight class. Dukes winning their third-place matches included junior Thomas Trowbridge, in the 220-pound class, and junior Trevor Dayton, in the 145-pound class. Cumberland junior 132-pounder Trequan Trent placed fourth. The Dukes are scheduled to return to action Thursday when they and Franklin High School will visit Windsor High School at 6 p.m.
