Tigers lose 105-94

Tigers junior guard/forward Kevin Quinn scored a team-high 23 points off the bench, but Hampden-Sydney College’s (H-SC) basketball team dropped a high-scoring 105-94 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball decision to visiting Emory & Henry College on Saturday at S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium, according to a H-SC athletics press release. 

Officials in the release noted that Hampden-Sydney sophomore center/forward Jake Hahn added a career-high 20 points, and freshman guard Cole Atwood had a career-high 17 points off the bench for the Tigers (4-11, 1-7 ODAC).

Daniel Spencer scored a game-high 32 points for the Wasps (12-6, 5-4 ODAC), while Tharon Suggs added 24 points, the release cited.

Quinn reached his 23-point total by making 8-of-11 field goals, including 5-of-6 three-pointers and 2-of-2 free throws, officials highlighted. They added that Hahn made 9-of-12 field goals and 2-of-3 free throws.  Atwood scored all of his career-high 17 points in the second half, making 6-of-7 field goals, including a perfect 5-of-5 on three-pointers.

Tigers sophomore guard Brendan McHale nearly had a double-double, contributing 11 points and a game-high nine assists to match his career-high, the release stated. It noted that freshman forward Morgan McKay added seven points and three rebounds off the bench.

Officials in the release pointed out that H-SC shot a season-best 60 percent (34-of-57) from the field, including a season-best 70 percent (14-of-20) on three-pointers and 80 percent (12-of-15) at the free throw line. The Tigers’ bench outscored the Wasps’ bench, 47-18, as the contest featured six lead changes and was tied four times.

Hampden-Sydney visits Ferrum College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
