A motion to approve amendments to the solid waste management plan between Cumberland and Prince Edward counties was voted by the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors during its January meeting.
A public hearing was held for the amendment. No members of the public spoke.
The public hearings concern amending its solid waste management plan to include the Green Ridge Recycling and Disposal Facility, and to consider the lease renewals of two county properties.
According to a public notice from the county, the amendment includes removing the proposed Cumberland County Development Company, LLC solid waste management facility from the plan and adding in its place Green Ridge Recycling and Disposal Facility, LLC.
The amendment would be made to the Amended Prince Edward County & Cumberland County Solid Waste Management Plan dated March 6, 2007, according to the notice. This is the county’s current solid waste management plan. The plan was approved with the cooperation of Cumberland and Prince Edward counties.
County Administrator and Attorney Vivian Seay Giles said during the meeting that because Cumberland was the county making the amendments, Prince Edward was not required to hold a public hearing about the agreement.
Giles said the agreement was not yet ready for adoption, citing there was data that the county did not yet have.
Giles said once the amendments were considered and made by Cumberland, the plan could be sent to Prince Edward County for consideration.
Giles suggested a motion to table the amendment until the changes could be made. Members of the board voted to table the amendment.
