Elizabeth Wells ‘Betty’ Atchley, 74, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Wednesday, January 23, 2019. Born on April 30, 1944, she was preceded in death by her parents, Leo Allen Wells and Louise Jones Wells.

Elizabeth taught for 30 years in the Botetourt and Roanoke County school systems. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all. Elizabeth was a 1962 graduate of Prince Edward Academy and a 1966 graduate of Westhampton College of the University of Richmond.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 52 years, Hubert Powell Atchley Jr. Also surviving are daughter, Ann Stewart (Chris) of Ashburn, Va.; son, Allen Atchley (Nina) of Cary, N.C.; grandchildren, Noah and Emily Stewart, Nathan and Will Atchley; devoted sister, Linda Wells Gage; and special nephew, Anthony Gage, both of South Hill, Va.

A Memorial Service was conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 27, at Oakey’s North Chapel. The family received friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to Southview United Methodist Church, Roanoke, and Smyrna Methodist Church, Sheppards, Va.
